The US Developed the Super Durable Glass

Source: LandGlass  Attention: 1777  Published: 2013-07-16

The latest study in the US has found that the glass material created by a strange way can be as durable as amber, most of which can be used for thousands of years. This is a kind of super hard glass produced through a strange vaporization process, while the different colors are caused by the variation in thickness. This kind of glass manufacturing method is different from that of the vase and juice glass. Household glassware is made by the way of injecting the melt glass into a model for cooling. But, a chemist of University of Wisconsin-Madison, Mark-Erdinger has a new way of manufacturing glass, which is to heat the glass to gas phase, and then let the gas deposit to a hard surface one layer after another. The result is the generation of a kind of more solid intensive material, which have higher temperature resistance than the glass made by traditional methods.

Erdinger created this new glass for the first time several years ago, and found its unique features. Yet, he had never been sure what he made is an evolved common glass or a completely new material. So he cooperated with a doctorate candidate of Department of Chemistry of University of Wisconsin Pablo and co-wrote a computer program to confirm his research.

This program simulated the process of vapor stratification and he found that he actually created a kind of super stable new type glass. Compared with the new type glass, the glass made in traditional method has cluttered and uneven structure. The program also helped Pablo and his team understand how the different arrangement of the glass molecules resulted in intensity difference between traditional glass and super glass.
