AGC recently launched the glass substrate for light guide plate, named "XCV". Using XCV glass as the plate for backlighting module of LCD TV reduces the thickness of the displays to less than 5mm.
By introduction of this product, AGC successfully improved a long-outstanding issue with using glass substrate for light guide plate – light transmittance. By adopting its extra-efficient float process, AGC has developed the process for mass-production. The company claims that compared to conventional LGPs made from acrylic resin, AGC’s new XCV glass substrate for light guide plate offers more than 20 times greater stiffness, reducing coefficient of thermal expansion by a factor of eight and hydroscopic expansion by a hundred.
Vivid pictures, extra-thin structure, plus narrower bezel design, have made the TV more like a ever-changing scenery window. It has made TV more of a stylish decorative star in a household than an appliance for entertainment and information.
