On the morning of January 8, hosted by the Party Central Committee and the State Council, the annual ceremony to honor distinguished scientists and research achievements was held in Beijing, China. The Party and State leaders Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, Zhang Goli, and Wang Huning attended the conference and presented the awards to the representatives of the award winners.

The “Architectural Glass Application Risk Inspection and Reliability Evaluation over Key Technology, Equipment, and Applications” project jointly completed by the China Construction Materials Science Research General Institute and China Building Material Test & Certification Group Co., Ltd. won the Class 2 2017 National Science and Technology Progress Award. As the project leader, the Chief Scientist Bao Yiwang of China Building Material Test & Certification Group Co., Ltd. represented the winning project at the conference.

Over the past decade, the “Architectural Glass Application Risk Inspection and Reliability Evaluation over Key Technology, Equipment, and Applications” project has gone through the complete innovation path from theoretical modeling, creation of testing method, development of dedicated devices, and establishing standard specifications. It achieved automated inspection on high-rise buildings through successfully developing the polariscope scanning technology and equipment for spontaneous tempered glass breakage automatic detection, inventing “dynamic relative method” for the detection and assessment of falling risk of architectural curtain wall, “deflection comparison method” for detection of intrinsic safety hazards in the insulating glass structure, and the robot system for glass curtain wall safety check.

Having in mind to improve the quality of China’s insulating glass and promote the products on international market, the project has also developed a series of inspection devices that meet the insulating glass safety requirements based on EU standard and US standard.  This achievement has wide range of applications on architectural curtain wall inspection worldwide and will accelerate the standardization of detection technology in this field. While benefiting the overall public safety in service and construction industries, it has practical significance in the efforts to improve application safety of architectural glass in China and reduce the occurrence of safety incidents.
